As a personal trainer in Toronto I often am asked how to achieve a bodybuilder’s physique. To the casual weight lifter bodybuilding is a rather simple task which can be summed up in the meat head phrase “I like to pick things up and put them down.” Well yes, bodybuilding at its core is essentially the simple act of picking up a heavy object and then setting it down, but if you think this is all that there is to bodybuilding than you really don’t know anything at all!
There is just so much more to bodybuilding than meets the eye. Consider these key questions: Do you know how many repetitions and the required weight needed to achieve optimal muscle growth? Does it make a difference if you lift the weight fast or slow? How many sets do you need to do? How long should you rest between sets? How much time should you allow for your muscles to recover between workouts? Is it good to be sore after a workout? What causes muscles to grow? What is intensity and why is it important? What is muscle failure?
You may know your way around a weight room, you may have been working out for years, but have you ever actually stopped and thought about the reasons behind what you’re doing? Has your workout routine been consistently delivering results? Has your physique remained the same along with your boring old workout routine? Have you stopped going to the gym due to a lack of progress?
It’s time to spice up your workout routine and get out of the slump you find yourself in. For those who think they already know everything about bodybuilding and have not yet achieved their dream body, it may be time to contact a personal trainer to really help you analyze what needs to be changed about your workout plan.
