I love the work of Os Gemeos, a set of identical twins from Sao Paulo whose graffiti is celebrated the world over. Their work was featured not long ago at the Geffen Contemporary in Los Angeles where they decorated an entire gallery’s worth with their whimsical yellow-skinned characters.
This abandoned building (sadly one of many aging historical buildings in Lisbon) sits near the business district of Saldanha in Lisbon on Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo. It’s one of a tryptich of abandoned buildings that were each painted by a different artist.
Walking up to it felt like a global game of tag, knowing that Os Gemeos had stopped by and left their mark. It’s the same rush I feel every time I recognize a distinct piece of artwork of a street artist I’ve seen somewhere else. Like they’re leaving a trail of crumbs for people to follow.
