XELLE (pronounced “XL”) is a pop group to consisting of two girls and a drag queen, JC Cassis, Rony G and Mimi Imfurst. Their songs and videos are catchy, sometimes campy, but always fun.
My favorite songs (and videos) from their debut EP, Queens, are “Party Girl” and “Queen”. (Check out these videos at the end of this post.) “Party Girl” was XELLE’s smash debut single, in which XELLE and 40 friends throw a party on a real, moving NYC subway train without a permit, was filmed in a single take and is catchy, campy fun.
XELLE recently released their video for what will certainly be another hit, “Queen”. In it, XELLE sings with some fierce makeup, trippy effects, and they all rock the bald-headed look. Ten familiar drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race make cameos in the video. (Pandora Boxx, Tammie Brown, Jiggly Caliente, JuJuBee, Manila Luzon, Alexis Mateo, PhiPhi O’Hara, Raven, Shannel, and Yara Sofia. I wonder if this was filmed in LA when many of these queens were filming RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race?) The video is visually stunning and was directed by XELLE’s own JC Cassis. Blending the faces of JC Cassis, Rony G and Mimi Imfurst into one during parts of the video is pretty cool, I just kept on watching to see what would happen next. The drag queen cameos are a fun addition and the beat and song are so catchy, I’ve got it on repeat. By now I think my neighbors are probably singing along as well!
Their debut EP, Queens, is available worldwide on iTunes and all other digital retailers.
