This week the West Hollywood City Council voted to make the rainbow crosswalks spanning San Vicente Boulevard at Santa Monica Boulevard permanent.
The rainbow crosswalks were initially approved just for Pride month, however they have proved so popular that they will now be a permanent fixture in West Hollywood. The rainbow crosswalks were initially painted their colorful hues, but will be regraded and the standard thermoplastic pavement markings like are used in other crosswalks will be used, in rainbow colors.
Councilmember John Duran said the crosswalks, as well as the rainbow flags along Santa Monica Boulevard, are important for the soul of the city and are appreciated by locals and visitors alike.
